We held our February 2016 meeting at Artsmiths, 1635 McFarland Rd. in Mt. Lebanon, a fantastic new venue that's been open for less than a year, to finish tweaking our plans for our 35th anniversary. Artsmiths is a partnership between the Satterfield brothers (Doug, Chuck and Bob), who owned the barn style building which houses the business, Kate McGrady, who was the visionary for the project and her Creative Director, Kate Wagle Hitmar.
Artsmiths has represented the work of over 200 local artists, and has a mission to keep the work mainly local, a real boon to Pittsburgh art makers, who are often overlooked or underrepresented in the city's expansion plans. With amenities that also include a cafe and a full scale art gallery on the lower level, Artsmiths will host Women of Visions' first formal art exhibition of the anniversary year in May.
"We also plan to have a kick-off event for our 35th Anniversary in April at another location, " said Tina Brewer, our new WOV, Inc President, who took over in Janurary. "It's going to be a very full and exciting year. And we're so lucky LaVerne Kemp, was able to connect us with Artsmiths."
Other upcoming Women of Vision plans include adding new members to its roster, offering a few more exhibitions to round out the anniverary year, and joining the Carnegie Library/Homewood for some community collaboration. Stay tuned for more details in the upcoming weeks!
